Detailed Itinerary:
Spend the day strolling along the peaceful village of Nong Khiew. Surrounded by high limestone mountains and the beautiful Nam Ou river, the district is prominent in Laos history. Travel through Nam Ou river to Mouang Ngoi village, learn about Laos culture, dabble in a traditional weaving experience with villagers, and get a sense of beauty in the Laos countryside.
Starting off with an early morning, you will travel through beautiful views and green forests to Viengxay by the Vietnam border. See the elegant views of Tham Pha Thok Cave, and a relaxing break at a hot water spring. Enjoy a local lunch at Mouang Hiem district!
Enjoy your day visiting national landmarks of Laos, and learn about the beauty of natural caves in the Huar Phan Province, also known as the ‘Hidden Cave City’. A province of an extensive network of caves, you will visit the Kaysone Phomvihan cave, Suphanuvong cave, Nuhack Phomsavanh cave, and Khamtai Siphandone cave, to get a feel of the scenery. Following the cave expedition, continue travelling to Some Nouer to visit the hill tribe village and shop at a traditional market.
Day 4: Sam Nouer – Tham piew cave – Phonsavanh (B,L,D)
Rise early to travel to the Phone Savanh (Xieng Khouang) province for a laid-back day. Enjoy a local lunch on the way to the Tham Piew Cave. Relax at a hot water spring near Mouang Kham district.
Day 5: UXO – Plain of jars – Mouang Khoun (B,L,D)
Today, you will visit historical landmarks in the Laos countryside. Xieng Khouang province was one of the heaviest bomb zones in Laos as it was one of the trails to South Vietnam. You can learn about America’s secret wars on Laos at the Mine Advisory Group (MAG) Museum.
Next, you will visit the amazing mysterious Plain of Jar archaeological site. The jars were made by a General thousand years ago to keep his rice whiskey in celebration of a war win. After a local lunch, continue learning about historical Laos as a French colony.
Day 6: Xieng Khouang – Tham Phukham cave – Luang Prabang (B,L,D)
Depart early in the morning to the Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage city. You will visit Tham Phukham cave, which was previously a hospital for the Laos Army during the Vietnam war and a Buddha cave. Enjoy lunch served at a local Phu Khuon province restaurant. Returning to Luang Prabang, say goodbye to your guide and have a safe journey home!
